Warden Marcus Ryan talked about slight changes that were made to Oxford County's tax policy and the community grants policy.
OXFORD - Oxford County's tax policy was up for discussion during the most recent council meeting.
This determines how the tax burden is distributed across all of the property classes, whether it's residential, commercial, industrial, or something else.
Warden Marcus Ryan explains what happened in Council Chambers on Wednesday.
"Yesterday, council decided to not make any high level changes. We added one little tax class for some on-farm diversified stuff, but other than that there were no changes to the ratio. So it's not functionally going to change the rate that anybody pays their taxes at."
He adds the tax policy is reviewed every year to make sure the tax burden is being distributed fairly.
Oxford County's grants policy was also under review yesterday. A slight change was approved, but Warden Ryan says it will only impact economic development agencies.
"They want to separate out economic development agencies and have them be funded through a service agreement that we would negotiate so they don't have to apply for the grant all of the time. They would get a service agreement that would state the service they would provide for a fee and they would report annually instead of applying annually for a grant."
The grants program supports local non-profit groups and organizations in the community and applications for the next round of funding will open May 1st, 2026.
