If the budget is passed without any more changes, the average homeowner in Woodstock would spend $230.30 extra on the city's portion of their property taxes in 2024.
WOODSTOCK - It looks like taxes could be going up in the City of Woodstock.
City Council will look over the proposed Revenue Budget for 2024 during this Thursday's meeting.
If it were to be passed right now without any further additions, there would be a 10.1 increase to the tax levy. This means the average homeowner would spend $230.30 extra on the city's portion of their property taxes this year.
Mayor Jerry Acchione says inflation has hit everyone hard this year.
"There have been a lot of financial pressures on everybody, but unfortunately those also affect the city as well. The reality is, we are growing."
He tells us about some of the items currently in the spending plan.
"Motion for having four more firefighters for example and all of the equipment that costs, so that is a fairly big one. Two more additions to the Parks and Rec Department to help with encampments, clean ups, and keeping parks clean."
Council will also debate some potential changes to transportation, which could impact the budget total if they're passed. The Streetscape Master Plan will also be discussed.
The proposed budget can be found in the agenda for the meeting, and Acchione is recommending that everyone check it out and talk to their members of council with any questions or concerns they may have.
Thursday's meeting should begin at 7:00 p.m. and it will be livestreamed on the City of Woodstock YouTube Channel.
