Woodstock City Council will hear a delegation from the Accessibility Advisory Committee and look over some road reconstruction contracts this Thursday.
WOODSTOCK - Accessibility in the downtown core will be one of the big topics discussed at the next Woodstock City Council meeting.
Mayor Jerry Acchione says Council will hear a 15-minute delegation from Woodstock's Accessibility Advisory Committee this Thursday night.
"The current streetscape is not accessible, which is what we hear quite often, so they are very excited with what's being proposed. So they're coming forward in hopes that council will move forward with it."
Council postponed the Streetscape Master Plan until after the 2024 Revenue Budget, which should be approved this March.
City Council will also discuss a couple of road reconstruction projects during this week's meeting; Leinster Street from Devonshire Avenue to Durham Crescent, and Rathbourne Ave from Huron Street to Blandford Street. Staff is recommending that Council approve a construction contract for Viewcon Construction Limited do to the work, which should begin this April or May, weather permitting.
We also have another big traffic headache on the horizon, with the Vansittart Ave bridge reconstruction project scheduled to begin this Wednesday. Acchione has some advice for the drivers out there.
"Please take an extra 10 or 15 minutes and leave ahead of time, especially until everyone gets used to it. Don't be in a rush and keep your speed down. Yes we know there is going to be traffic and yes some intersections will have more traffic than usual, but please be kind to everyone."
This Thursday's City Council meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. and it will be livestreamed on the City of Woodstock YouTube page. You can also find the meeting agenda online here.
During his interview with Dan and Marcie this morning, Mayor Acchione also discussed the following:
- This thoughts on Super Bowl LVIII and the halftime show.
- Discussions regarding CN Rail crossing maintenance and passenger service.
- Upcoming Revenue Budget discussions for Woodstock.
- His plans for the Family Day long weekend.
