Hundreds Protest At Electro Motive Saturday

Hundreds of members of the CAW, their affiliates and their families staged a demonstration outside of London's Electro Motive Saturday. A Bar-B-Q was put on by members of Ingersoll's CAW Local 88 in a show of solidarity and support for CAW Local 27 who have been locked out by their employer Caterpillar Inc. since January 1st. CAW Local President Tim Carrie says Saturday's gathering is just the tip of the iceberg "It's a call letter to all our affiliates across the province to join us here at the 21st of January at 11:00am. We are going to have a massive rally in front of this plant. We've already got an agreement that this street (Oxford Street East to Industrial Road) will be shut down and I anticipate thousands". CAW Local 88 President Dan Borthwick helped organize the Bar-B-Q and tells Heart-FM the fight for job security is not just in London, but more wide spread than some people can imagine "It's their fight, it's our fight, it's the labourer and workers fight. If they can come in and arbitrarily tell you we are going to reduce your wages in half, they can do that to anybody - you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure that out". London's Fanshawe-North MP Irene Mathyssen says the Federal and Provincial Governments have a leadership role to play in making sure jobs are secure and the workers of this country are respected.
