Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman introduces a bill he hopes will cut waste

TORONTO -  Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman announced a Bill to ensure social housing providers are no longer overcharged for natural gas and insurance.  

"The bill is to put a little bit more accountability into the Housing Services Corporation.  First thing we want to do is make sure that municipalities and the public housing sector are not obligated to purchase from the service corporation, obliviously if they have to be competitive they will have to straighten out there act. ''     

Hardeman believes we need to cut waste as much as possible.  "It effects anyone who lives in public housing which is in Oxford.  All the housing that is provided are all under the same regulations, so the County of Oxford can purchase their gas or their insurance from anywhere they want for the whole county except, from the housing portfolio they have to buy it through the housing corporation."     

Hardeman is also requesting the salaries from the Housing Services Corporation which exceeded $100,000 to be placed back on the Sunshine list.  

Oxford's MPP added he is not pleased with how the current provincial government has handled this issue.  "Since they've been in office we have seen a waiting list of 40,000 people.  If you look at the extra money they're spending on this organization, that would help fund a lot of housing for those, rent supplements for those people who are waiting for a place to live."
