Council asks for report on water and sewer hook-up proceedures
OXFORD COUNTY - When it comes to procedures around water and sewer hook-ups to new development or boundary adjusted areas Ingersoll's Mayor has concerns.
Ted Comiskey made a motion at County Council Wednesday for a report outlining the procedures from Corporate Services and how the cost of hookup to each property is calculated.
"Originally it was done by the frontal footage. You paid a certain amount of dollars by how many feet you own to the feet. Now it has changed actually to the cost of the hook-up and depending as such on how many households are on that street, it is divided the overall costs."
"There's other municipalities within the County that have bumped into the same situation and that is that work had been done maybe two or three years ago and they are getting bill now. One part of a subdivision had its water and sewer put in quite a few years ago and residents only had to pay so much. Today, the water and sewer goes in and residents have to pay much more."
"We have a responsibility and our responsibility is to look after our communities and when concerns like this come forward, we are not here to burden anyone. We are here as a service. The services must be up front, open and transparent and be able to be relayed to the community on what they are doing."
A report will be prepared by Corporate Services.
