Woodstock City Council is supporting East Zorra Tavistock Council, as they ask the province to consider other ways to improve transportation in Southwestern Ontario.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council is backing a resolution passed by East Zorra Tavistock Council.
The two municipalities are calling on the provincial government, to look into other ways to improve transportation in Southwestern Ontario; instead of the proposed High Speed Rail line.
Woodstock Councillor Connie Lauder says the rail could cut through farm land north of Embro and continue into East Zorra Tavistock Township.
"It's going to split farms in half and it could be harder for emergency services to get to locations because of them cutting off the roads."
Lauder does not see any benefit for Oxford whatsoever.
"I just don't think it's that great for Oxford County because if we want to get on the train we either have to go to London or Kitchener, so hopefully they can find other ways. I'm not against having a High Speed Rail, but I hope they can come up with other resolutions."
