Locals could be living in the former Harvey Woods building by late winter.
WOODSTOCK - The application process hasn't officially opened yet for the former Harvey Woods building and already 60 applications have been submitted for just 54 affordable housing units.
Indwell Executive Director Jeff Neven says he is not surprised by the response.
"We were turning away about two people a week at our program off of Devonshire. When you add that up, two a week doesn't sound like very much but at 52 weeks a year, you're looking at over 100 a year that we are turning away."
Indwell is the new name given to Homestead Christian Care, which changed their name earlier this year after they found it was too similar to other organizations and confusing.
"We're very excited about the new name 'Indwell'. It's an old English word mean to inhabit and we think it well represents who we are but our values, our vision, our mission have not changed -- they are the same -- so just the name has changed."
While the project was originally hoped to be completed last month, Neven says they are now looking at a late winter opening.
Neven says their income from subsidy programs and rent still leaves them short of breaking even for the project.
"It works out that we have a gap of $125 per person, per month. When you think about 54 people moving into this Harvey Woods building, which is fantastic, we also need help from the community to cover that gap. 54 people times $125 per month."
