Health Minister Vows to Release Provincial Re-opening Plan "Soon"

Health Minister Christine Elliott says the provincial government is working on a plan to re-open the province.

Elliott also commented that officials hope to release the plan to the public "very soon."

This comes as the province reports 1,616 new cases today, which is the lowest amount since since March 24th. 

The Health Minister notes officials have been working with the chief medical officer of health on the plan in order to avoid going into a fourth wave while re-opening. 

"We have to do everything we can to avoid that so we are working on that and we expect it will be available very soon. It is sector specific looking at what different types of sectors could perhaps be reopened and what their specific needs and timelines are."

There is no word yet on when exactly the province will begin to re-open, but sources tell CTV News the province is looking at June or early July to unlock the economy. 

Elliott says the question of when the province will re-open depends on several factors, including hospitalization rates. 

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams has said he hopes Ontario is well below the 1,000 mark before restrictions are eased. 

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Premier's office says while the colour-coded re-opening framework won't return, it's unclear what the new plan will look like. 

Last year, the Ford government released a staged re-opening plan on April 27th, but restrictions weren't lifted until about a month later.
