Health Coalitions across Southwestern Ontario will shine a light on how the pandemic has affected long-term care homes during a virtual protest tomorrow.
OXFORD COUNTY - Health Coalitions across Southwestern Ontario including Oxford County are hosting a virtual protest on Wednesday.
Chair of the local Health Coalition Bryan Smith says it will be a chance to hear directly from people inside local long term care homes.
"Some of the speakers are people who have been grievously affected by the COVID crisis in Long Term Care. By in large, those are not people who live at LTC homes, they are family members, essential caregivers and some of them being professionals and PSW's. We have a bunch of those people to share their experiences of how they have lived through 1st and now into the 2nd wave of the COVID crisis, how that is affecting their lives, how that is affecting the lives of loved ones and also about the conditions in which they live and work."
Smith says we managed to escape the first wave without any serious incidents at local long term care homes, but that certainly hasn't been the case during the second wave. We had at least 3 major COVID-19 outbreaks in Oxford County in the second wave at Maple Manor, Caressant Care Retirement Home and peopleCare in Tavistock.
The virtual event is happening tomorrow Wednesday March 3rd from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
