Hardworking Student Receives Award from City

A hardworking student from CASS has been named as this year's recipient of the Student Civic Award of Excellence

WOODSTOCK - A student from College Avenue Secondary School has received a special award from Woodstock City Council. Dalton Beseau has been presented with the 2016 Student Civic Award of Excellence, which also comes with a $1,000 scholarship.

Acting Mayor Connie Lauder says council gives this award away every year and it is always tough to pick the right recipient.

"There were four applications and it is always hard to pick one but he did come on top of the group. You'd like to give to all four because you hate to pick and choose but he really did stand out."

Beseau is very active in his school parliament and organizes multiple school events such as dances, fundraisers, and the winter carnival. On top of all of this he is also a member of the United Way Leadership Committee and the Youth Advisory Committee.

Lauder says Beseau has a very bright future ahead of him.

"He's going to be attending the University of Guelph-Humber for Justice Studies so I think he will do really well and certainly he was well deserving of this."
