MPP's from across the province will have the opportunity to voice their thoughts on Ernie Hardeman's Willing Host Bill this afternoon.
QUEENS PARK - Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman will be back in the legislature this afternoon, debating his Willing Host Bill for second reading.
Hardeman says the private members bill looks to give municipalities more power when it comes to approving landfills.
"It means that anyone who wants to develop a landfill site, they need to talk to municipalities. Whether they can agree that it's a reasonable idea, that the benefits of having it outweigh the decrement of having it."
Other MPP's will have the opportunity to voice their thoughts on the bill this afternoon.
But Hardeman says the house will recess for the election in a couple of days, meaning the bill will have to be reintroduced in the future.
"If we can get it debated before the election, we can have some kind of sense as to where the different parties stand on it and whether they think it's a good idea. We can hear the debate of what might need changing and it will give some kind of indication of any of those changes we need to make after the election to get the house to agree with it."
The debate should kick off at 3pm and the second reading vote will take place an hour later.
