Ernie Hardeman was in Tillsonburg and Norwich yesterday to promote the importance of supporting our local businesses.

TILLSONBURG - The MPP for Oxford County is promoting his promoting his Shop Local, Buy Local initiative.

Ernie Hardeman was in Tillsonburg and Norwich yesterday to promote the importance of supporting our local businesses. He says when times are tough, it is even more crucial to shop local.

"Oxford has been hard hit by recent layoff announcements in addition to the current strike at CAMI, which is an important reminder to support our businesses and the jobs they create here in Oxford. Groups like the Tillsonburg BIA are doing great work to ensure there is a strong local economy with lots of great products available right here in Tillsonburg."

Hardeman launched a Shop Local, Buy Local initiative after the Firestone announcement. The initiative builds on existing buy local campaigns by bringing greater awareness to the importance of supporting local businesses. Tillsonburg Mayor Stephen Molnar joined him yesterday.

"The Town of Tillsonburg has historically been a valuable centre for business, health care and retail services supporting a regional population of nearly 80,000. The opportunity to Shop Local is a positive reinforcement to the business owners and families who have invested in our community and region and who provide valuable opportunities to us all on a regular basis. Local patronage is important for these entrepreneurs and I encourage us all to look local first when identifying important items for our families or homes."

Executive Director of the Tillsonburg BIA Virginia Armstrong is a big fan of the Buy Local campaign.

"We were happy to host MPP Hardeman and are grateful for his support through his promotion of shopping and buying local. Our businesses have been very receptive of the initiative and are excited ?to be a part of supporting our local community."
