This year's Halloween Howl at Winchester Street Public School is raising money for new classroom supplies.
WOODSTOCK - Winchester Street Public School is getting ready to have a scarier Halloween Howl than ever before.
October 23rd activities will be happening all evening and Fundraising Chair at the school, Joan Van Raalte, explains what the public will enjoy upon attending. "We're going to have some carnival games, we'll have some prizes, we've got our haunted house, we're running a silent auction and a penny sale, we're doing some face painting, we've got some food booths going on with some popcorn and pizza. We will also be selling some spirit wear. We've got Woodstock EMS coming out."
Teacher at the school, Heather Reid, says they are also hoping to drum up some help for our local community. "So we are collecting non-perishable food items at the Halloween Howl. We are asking Winchester students to go out on Halloween night when they are trick or treating and they are going to collect non-perishable food items that night. We are asking for all donations to be back at Winchester the following Monday." Food drive numbers have been down in the past, and they're hoping to change that.
Money raised from this event will help students further their learning and education. "We're looking at purchasing some more iPads for the junior division, they use that a lot with their reading," says Can Raalte. "It gives the kids individual time to read, and have stories read to them. We're also looking at purchasing more Chromebooks, and possibly a couple more smart boards for the school as well because we have teachers without smart boards that could really use them."
The event is free and runs from 6 - 9 p.m.
