It will be a little longer than anticipated before we see construction at the Habitat for Humanity Woodstock build sites.
WOODSTOCK - If you've driven past the Habitat for Humanity build sites in Woodstock lately, you've likely noticed delays have pushed back the start of construction.
The two homes slated for Main Street had their official ground breaking in May with hopes of starting construction by mid June.
Chair of the Woodstock build, Andrew Moir says there is a lot going on behind the scenes preparing for the build and with delays, it's looking more like a mid August start.
"Just trying to get all the paper work together, making sure we can get the site itself serviced, get all of our contractors and different people that are going to be working on the site lined up, so we are now getting ready to really start getting the lot serviced, getting it graded and get ready to start the foundation."
"We are hoping to get a lot of the work done on the outside of the building in August/September and then hoping to get inside and working after that, hoping for end of year would be ideal. If we could get the family in for Christmas that would be even better."
Moir says he hasn't been able to speak with the families yet about the delays.
"I'm sure, you know, as with anyone in this situation, they would like to get into the house as quickly as possible, you know, get into their new home. These types of builds have these types of delays periodically and hopefully they'll be able to work with us and support us and go forward from there. "
Moir says the delay may actually help the organization since many people vacation in the summer so in theory there would be more available volunteers come the fall.
