A crowd of people showed up to witness the groundbreaking for a new school and child care centre in Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock is growing and so are the schools.
To combat the issue, there will be a brand new school built at 717 Knights Lane in the northern part of the City. Today at 1:30 p.m. politicians, members of the Thames Valley District School Board, and students were on hand to help celebrate the official groundbreaking ceremony. Vice Chair of TVDSB, Dave Cripps says the facility will benefit the community in so many ways.
"It's great, it's great for the community. As you can tell by the grounds, it's going to be a great facility and one that our students will take advantage of for years to come."
The school will hold over 850 students as well as close to 90 spots for infants through preschoolers. Cripps says the other schools in the City and County will also see benefits.
"It's also relieving some of the pressures that we are seeing in Hickson, Zorra, and Central, so all of our schools will be at a reasonable capacity."
The project is scheduled to be completed by January 2026. You can keep up to date with all the latest information regarding the project by visiting the TVDSB website.
