If you're interested in renewable energy, Woodstock Hydro has an event for you.
WOODSTOCK - Plug in to Green Power.
That's the message being sent out by Woodstock Hydro as they prepare for their Green Energy Doors Open event Saturday.
Manager of Operations Jay Heaman says you can learn about their White Lane microGRID, solar panels, energy storage and even electric vehicles.
"We're encouraging people to come out and learn about the technologies, how quickly they are changing, how they can leverage it for their own homes and their own families. If you think about this -- every dollar that you're sending to the electric utility for electricity is a dollar you're not putting in your child's education fund."
Heaman says it's being run as a station theme.
"Folks will be issued a passport and the idea there is that they will go around to seven stations that we have set up and just get these things stamped and they will have a chance to talk with professionals from different themes."
"We have solar professionals set up, we have smart metering where people can learn about that untapped technology -- there's so much to learn from smart metering. Ryerson University is going to there to talk about their 3D modelling that we have been working with them on, we have electric vehicles. People will have the opportunity to drive our Nissan Leaf if they like and our Whites Lane MicroGRID."
Heaman says the Mobile Smart Home trailer will be on site as well to get an idea of what your home may look like in the future.
This free event runs Saturday from 10-3pm at the Woodstock Hydro back lot on Graham Street.
