Gord Marshall Tournament Takes Over Innerkip

Amazing softball and a penchant for charity will be on display for the 14th Gord Marshall Memorial Tournament.

INNERKIP - An Innerkip tradition has returned to display some amazing fastball and raise money for charity.

The Gord Marshall Memorial tournament has returned with teams from all over Ontario taking part.

Media Relations Coordinator Kyle Smith says the Innerkip Umpires Association are continuing the long-standing tradition of raising money for worthy causes.

"In the first 10 years we raised money exclusively for cancer and were able to raise $125 000 over the course of 10 years and that was in memory of a local farmer and friend of the Innerkip Umpires, Gord Marshall."

This year they are changing focus, zeroing in on Parkinson's Disease as one of the umpires has recently been diagnosed with the illness.

Smith says with so much going on, there are many factors that bring teams back time and time again.

"It's a lot the venue - the park is one of the best in Ontario, in Canada. I think it just comes down to the people and the volunteers and I'm sure the causes have helped - the charities that we're working with."

The tournament is currently underway - the championships are scheduled for Sunday.
