Canada Post announces plans to phase out door to door mail delivery
The days of door to door mail delivery are numbered.
Canada Post has announced it's phasing out urban home delivery in the next 5-years.
Postal carriers will be replaced with community mail boxes.
Officials with the postal service says rising costs and declining mail volumes have made it impossible to continue mail delivery as we've come to know it.
The move will of course affect jobs. An estimated 6,000 to 8,000 positions will be eliminated over the next 5-years, mainly through attrition.
They expect nearly 15,000 employees to retire or leave the company over that time.
