The Town of Ingersoll wants answers and are heading to Belgium to get them.
INGERSOLL - The Town of Ingersoll is taking their fight of the Walker Landfill proposal all the way to Belgium.
Plans are in the works to have a sit down with the Town officials and those at the head office of Carmeuse Lime to get answers as to why they have decided to partner with Walker Environmental.
Mayor Ted Comiskey says while Carmeuse has been a great supporter of the labour force in Oxford County, their partnership with Walker is a concern.
The Mayor, Deputy Mayor and CAO would be going but Comiskey says the trip would be quite quick. "We are trying to keep this cost to as little as possible. We will be flying at night when it's cheap and we will be staying for one day and flying back at night when it's cheap. We don't want this to become an expense -- it's not a vacation -- it's a meeting to be able to bring forward our thoughts directly to Carmeuse -- and hopefully -- have them see eye to eye our concerns."
Comiskey says the idea came about two years ago but at that time the Town was getting reluctance from Carmeuse's Pittsburgh office. "They would like us just to work through it with Walker and that Carmeuse was only going to be a landlord and not necessarily involved with it. Well I can't see how that's possible even as a landlord. If you're concerned about the contaminations or any spoils going on and you're only the landlord, it's going to be your land that's going to be effected down the road years and year ahead."
Comiskey says the issue was brought up again during the municipal election.
No date his been set at this point for the trip though Comiskey expects it to take place sometime within the next few weeks.
