The funding taps have been turned off for the popular Mother Goose program, but that's not the end of the story. The Oxford Elgin Child & Youth Centre plan to keep it going according to Executive Director Marc Roberts. "Absolutely. I feel very, very strongly about it, and that's why we as an organization took the risk of continuing to operate that program. We just feel so strongly about it and all the feedback we get from parents and other service providers is just all so positive." Over 12,000 kids and 800 families used the program last year, which fosters early literacy and positive parenting. It was funded by the province, once upon a time, as part of Early Years programming, which was delivered by the County. When the province discontinued funding of Early Years, Oxford County cut the service, which was picked up by other local agencies. Now, Oxford Elgin Child & Youth Centre will try and support the program's $30,000 annual cost. To start, the OCYC is holding a gift card sale during the holiday season. You can purchase a gift card from a major retailer, and the Mother Goose program will get a percentage. Posted on the right is a flyer for the program that outlines the gift cards available, and how you can purchase one, or contact mothergoosefundraiser@gmail.com.
