The 156th Embro Fall Fair kicks off Friday night with plenty on the schedule for the whole family to enjoy.
EMBRO -- It's 'Fun With Games' at the 156th edition of the Embro Fall Fair this weekend.
As Secretary Carol Hanlon points out, the fair will not only offer a number of activities based on this year's theme but also the favourites that have been a part of the festivities from past years. "It's just promoting having fun with board games, we have a zip lining thing coming in, we have bouncey rides but we also have a lot of free kids activities which includes a fun with games theme -- we're going to have board games and crokinole set up in the lobby of the arena that people can come and play whenever they want to."
Hanlon says many of the favourites are back this year including a parade Saturday morning, a variety show, Southwestern Ontario Highland Dance competition and all-ages dance with live entertainment from Kerosene Creek.
Treasurer Doug Turvey's family has been involved with the organization for three decades now. "The fair for us was always something that you just went to. On the farm, that was one of the days that we took off to go to the fair and there wasn't very many days that we would take time off to go do something. And then back in 70's and early 80's when we went to school, we got the Monday off to go to the fair from the school."
Turvey's said his mother actually served as the Treasurer when he was a child enjoying the fair.
The events kick off at 7:30 pm Friday night and run until Sunday afternoon.
Last year's fair ambassador winner Alexis Kramer will crown the new ambassador Friday, coming of off her recent Miss Congeniality win at the CNE in Toronto.
