The former Norwich Council office has been vacant since January.
OTTERVILLE - After the completion of the Norwich Township Municipal building, council is now faced with what to do with the previous space. Many options have been brought up with how to fill the empty property that is located in Otterville. CAO clerk for the township of Norwich Kyle Kruger spoke to Heart FM to update the progress on empty the building.
"The former municipal office in Otterville has been vacant since our move to our new location in Norwich in approximately the middle of January. Since that time our records have remained, the majority of that has been moved out so we are ready to make it available to the public for a commercial lease or a rental situation."
Kruger goes over more of the potential changes that could see the building put back into operation.
"The suggestions to council were retaining the building as a library service. We have had some preliminary looks at using it as what is called a business incubator building, to try to assist new business and getting established in the area and of course the option to sell the building outright for commercial purposes.”
“Ultimately, council has directed that we make the building open for a lease or rental purpose for commercial use only we are hoping to emphasize potentially filling the building with a commercial use to be of assistance to the core of Otterville."
The CAO of Norwich Township expresses that any group interested in leasing out the building to contact the township office immediately, and that no matter what happens to the building, accessibility for public parking will remain leading to the Otterville Park.
In a Norwich Gazette article, Councillor Jim Palmer said the building was not quite a dump, but close to it.
