Court resumed this morning shortly after 10 am following Tuesday's postponement. Defence attorney Dirk Derstine was sick with the flu over the Easter weekend and due to his absence yesterday, court was delayed for a day. This morning, two forensic experts took to the stand. The first witness, Barbara Doupe, works at the Centre for Forensic Science. Doupe presented items she seized from Rafferty's 2003 Honda Civic, including a piece of fabric that she testified was from the rear seat of a Honda Civic. When police confiscated Rafferty's vehicle, the rear seat was missing. Doupe said the fabric had recently been cut and was not washed. Police bought a duplicate back seat from a Honda Civic to compare the fabrics and Doupe cut a portion from the purchased seat; she testified the fabric found in Rafferty's car had similar characteristics to the portion she cut from the purchased seat. Doupe also talked about two blonde hairs that were found on the black peacoat that was taken from Rafferty's home. Terri-Lynne McClintic testified that Rafferty used that black coat to cover Tori in the back seat as she laid on the floor. The Crown called their second witness for today, Jennifer McLean who works in biology section of the Centre of Forensic Sciences. McLean's expertise are in bodily fluid identifications and DNA analysis of blood, semen and saliva. McLean is currently speaking to jury on DNA evidence that was recovered from Rafferty's car, including the hairs from the jacket and a blood stain that was found near the rear passenger side door.
