Ford Not Ready to Make Any School Announcements

"I just don't want to rush this. If it takes a couple of extra days, so be it, this is a massive decision."

The Province is not going to make a decision on re-opening schools today.

Premier Doug Ford says he wants to take his time and make sure we get this decision right. He is deeply worried about the new variant in Ontario, which first originated in India. 

Yesterday Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams said he would like to see kids back in class and that almost every health unit in the Province is ready to go forward with having kids in school.

Premier Doug Ford has always said he listens to Dr. Williams and was asked today if he is afraid to make a decision on this. 

"I have never been afraid to make decisions, in fact I have made some of the toughest decisions and probably not popular decisions but we are here to protect the health of the people of Ontario."

Ford says he wants a consensus.

"I know very clearly where Dr. Williams stands, but I want scientists to weigh in, I want to make sure the teacher unions weigh in, I just don't want to rush this. If it takes a couple of extra days, so be it, this is a massive decision. This is a decision that is going to effect every single person in Ontario." 

Ford was also asked if he is looking for someone else to blame if re-opening schools goes south.

"At the end of the day, the buck stops with me. I'm responsible, for the good things, I give all the credit to the frontline health care workers, if things go a little sideways, I'll take responsibility, which I have and if they don't go the right way, I will go up and apologize and correct it immediately."

Ford says this is a big decision and he doesn't want to rush it.
