City looking for a new owner for old Thomas Bus factory site
Up for bids: a well used 14-acre parcel of industrial property.
The City of Woodstock is marketing the former Thomas Bus factory property.
Two parcels of land were acquired last year after the owners were behind in their taxes, owing close to $1-million.
The city is going to retain 211 Tecumseh for potential future wastewater expansion, but 275 Tecumseh is up for grabs. The property also has a 120-thousand square foot building on site.
Development Officer Brad Hammond tells Heart FM, "The city's owned it for about a year. We've gone through a process to see if there's any municipal uses for the property. We're convinced there isn't, so we'd like to see it put back to use as soon as possible."
Although, when asked about the likelihood of contaminated soil on-site from the former bus factory, Hammond concedes the site does have its warts. "We are aware that there's a closed landfill site, dating back to the early days of the city. We know that's part of that property. I would expect there's some level of environmental issues with the site."
Regardless, city is accepting sealed bids up until 3PM on February 14th.
