The Food for Friends Quarter Matching program has started in Woodstock and Ingersoll.
WOODSTOCK/INGERSOLL - The Foodland stores in Ingersoll and Woodstock and the Sobey's in Woodstock are getting into the Festive Spirit.
They are doing the quarter matching program for Operation Sharing's Food for Friends right now. Owner of the Woodstock Chris Chapman says the campaign will run until Thanksgiving. Chapman has been working with Operation Sharing for 13 years and has be doing the quarter matching program for the past 8 years.
"We have generally been able to give Operation Sharing a nice cheque of $9,000, $10,000 and $11,000, that is the different amounts we have hit over the last number of years.
Chapman says he loves Food for Friends because it is so innovative.
"I'm really impressed with it because I have been in this business for years and I have seen countless food bank bag donation programs and what do you see, you see the usual cans of peas, boxes of KD, do you ever see a loaf of bread? a head of lettuce? a package of ground beef? No and with this program, that part of our community, that is a little bit disadvantaged is able to get a card that allows them to come into the grocery store and pick out their own non taxable foods, so that eliminates all the pop and chips and it allows them to buy the foods that they need, that they like and in some cases that meet their dietary restrictions. It is a terrific program, I have seen it hit other communities across the country and I think Woodstock should be very proud of what we have got going on here."
So for every quarter you donate to Food for Friends, the grocery stores will match it.
