Flood Outlook for the Lake Erie Shoreline

Lake Erie is currently at its highest level since 1986 and the second highest since 1918.

TILLSONBURG - The Long Point Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood outlook message for all areas of the Lake Erie shoreline. 

They are issuing the message to raise attention about the current and forecasted high static water levels of Lake Erie. People are being asked to use caution or stay away from the shoreline during times of strong wave action and elevated water levels. Water Resource Analyst for the LPRCA Ben Hodi says more frequent flood events are expected through this fall and into the winter. 

"As a result of the high lake levels, there is an overall increased risk for flooding and erosion along the shorelines of Lake Erie. The greatest risk for flooding and erosion in the Long Point Region in particular is from storms with sustained south-westerly and westerly wind."

Lake Erie is currently at its highest level since 1986 and the second highest since 1918.  

Long Point Region Conservation Authority staff will continue to monitor conditions and will update this flood message as necessary.
