The Woodstock Fire Department has a few tips if you plan on celebrating Victoria Day with a bang.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Fire Department is putting out a few reminders to anyone why might celebrate Victoria Day with Fireworks.
According to the City By-law the only days you can have fireworks in Woodstock are on the Victoria Day Monday and Canada Day. They are not permitted on public property and you need a special permit if your going to have more than 20 people take in the show. Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods offers up a few safety tips to anyone using fireworks on Monday.
"Choose a wide clear site, away from any overhead obstacles, if it's windy or rainy, those are not good nights, make sure you read all of the instructions on the fireworks before using them, use a good firing base such as a pail, a box or a wheel barrel that is filled with sand, bury the fireworks half way that don't have a standing base unless the firework indicates otherwise and then set them at a 10 degree angle away from the people."
Woods says the person conducting the show should be over 18 and it is a good idea to have a bucket of water nearby.
