Finding the Best Chili in Norwich

If you believe you have the best chili in Norwich, it's time to prove it.

NORWICH - The Norwich Optimist Club is getting ready to host their 3rd annual Chili Cook-Off fundraiser.

Teams participate in the tasting competition each year to determine who has the tastiest chili in the area.

Past President Mike Legge says there will be lots prizes up for grabs.

"We'll pick the first, second, and third best tasting chili, we have best team name, best chili name - that kind of thing. This year we're also going to have a fan vote for fan favourite chili."

The winning teams will receive trophies, certificates, and bragging rights. The will also be judged by Heart FM's very own Shelby Knox and Cody Hayward.

Legge adds they will be serving more than just chili at the event.

"We have hotdogs, we have ice cream, we have cupcakes so if you've got kids who don't like chili, there's plenty of stuff to eat. We'll have nacho chips around because they're always good for dunking in the chili. One of my personal favourites is taking a hotdog and putting some chili on it and making a chili dog."

People at the event will also be able to bid on numerous items on a silent auction table.

The first Chili Cook-Off in 2014 raised over $10,000 for a local family who lost their home in a fire. Last year the fundraiser raised about $8,200 for the Norwich Optimist Club, which benefits local children's events, clubs, and organizations.

The 2016 Chili Cook-Off is set to take place on November 5th at the Norwich Community Centre. The fundraiser will kick off at 5 p.m. with chili being served and the silent auction tables opening up at 5:30. Things are set to wrap up at around 8 p.m.

Admission is $12 for an adult or $6 for kids under the age of 12.
