Leylah Fernandez will be moving on to the U.S. Open women's final after she beat Number 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus last night 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.
NEW YORK - Leylah Fernandez is moving on to the U.S. Open women's final.
She managed to beat Number 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in the semifinal last night 7-6, 4-6, 6-4. This is her fourth consecutive three-set victory over a seeded opponent.
The 19-year-old from Laval, Quebec will now battle 18-year-old Emma Raducanu of Great Britain for the Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows tomorrow.
Meanwhile, fellow Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime will battle Number-2 seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia in the men's semifinal today. If he wins, he'll become the first Canadian man to reach the U.S. Open final. Canadian-born Greg Rusedski made the U.S. Open final back in 1997, but he moved overseas so he represented Great Britain in the tournament.
