Police will be out in full force this long weekend targeting the big four after the amount of fatal collisions have doubled over the past week.
OXFORD COUNTY - The amount of fatal collisions has nearly doubled in Oxford County over the past 6 days.
We have had 3 fatal collisions in Oxford since last Friday, with four people dying. This brings our total for the year to 7 fatal collisions and 8 total fatalities. Last year at this time the County had 8 fatal collisions, so we are still under last years totals, despite the devastating week.
Constable Patti Cote says this past week serves as a reminder to all motorists to slow down and be aware of your surroundings.
"We want everybody to do their part and remember that once you get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle it is your responsibility to ensure everyone's safety, not only yours. So let's all do our part by paying attention, obey the speed limit, leave your phone alone, take an extra look while at an intersection and of course drive sober. We want everyone to get to their destination safely, not only this long weekend, but always."
Cote says police will be out in full force this long weekend targeting the big four.
