This stretch of hot, rainless weather is affecting our local farms resulting in more irrigating and smaller produce. But the immediate future looks friendly. The Weather Network's calling for 15 to 20 millimetres of rain across Oxford County in the next 24 hours. An amount that Sue Hilborn of RedBarn Berries and Veggies knew would come sooner or later. "I always remember the guy that we bought our farm from. He said 'when you need the rain this farm will give you rain.' And so it looks like we're going to get it tonight and that's great. We always get one of those big rain storms each summer. We've been waiting for it, so let's hope what they say is true." The Downtown Woodstock Farmer's Market hasn't been affected much from the lack of rain. Vendors say they are charging the same prices for produce and that irrigation systems are keeping them going.
