A Woodstock man faces a number of charges after taking Woodstock Police on a chase in and around the city.
WOODSTOCK - It may have looked like a high speed chase from a movie. Woodstonians that witnessed a high speed chase through the city were quick to realize it was a real life scene instead.
Reports say that what began as a fail-to-remain collision around 2 p.m. yesterday afternoon at Finkle Street and Parkinson Road, quickly turned into complete havoc on city streets.
Police began their search for the suspect driving a green Dodge Durango. Police say the driver went on to hit two unoccupied vehicles in the parking lot at the back of Woodstock Police Services and continued speeding through city streets. The suspect then rear ended a Woodstock Police van on Peel Street near Bay Street. There officers were not in the vehicle at the time and no one was injured.
The suspect then then decided to do a series doughnuts on the soccer field of St. Mary's Catholic High School on Juliana Drive before leaving the city. The Durango was seen on Devonshire Ave and went north on Oxford Rd., 4 towards Innerkip. Around 2:45 p.m. OPP alerted bus lines travelling with children in the area about the erratic driver.
It wasn't until 4:30 p.m when Woodstock Police learned the Dodge Durango had entered Woodstock again, at which point the suspect's vehicle was surrounded by a heavy police presence in front of 1455 Dundas Street, near the Woodstock Toyota plant .
The suspect will attend a bail hearing this morning. An extensive investigation has begun by the Criminal Investigations Branch.
