A full set of youth goalie equipment has been donated to Tavistock Minor Hockey.
TAVISTOCK - Tavistock Minor Hockey was the recipient of a new set of goalie equipment.
The equipment was donated as part of the Insurance Broker's Association of Ontario Goaltender Assist Program.
Director of Operations at Josslin Insurance Scott Wagler says the company has a responsibility to support the communities where they live and do business.
"I mean it's very tough to get equipment. Equipment is very expensive. Of course young kids don't know if they are going to continue to be goalies or not and after all it takes a pretty special person to want to stand and get pucks fired at them for an hour or two. We are just happy we can do it especially in the communities we serve."
"What would have happened this year," continued Wagler, "Tavistock would have made an application, of course we made an application to IBAO and then they put the centres and the brokers together and voila! Here we are."
"We're just happy that we can participate in the program," said Wagler. "It's important to the community and it's important to the kids. It gives somebody an opportunity that might not otherwise get the opportunity to strap on some pads and face some pucks."
The kit came compete with a bag, chest protector, pads, blocker, catcher's gloves, stick and goaltender resources.
