Brighten Burgessville Campaign are looking to fundraise while helping the environment
BURGESSVILE -- It may only be spring but residents in Burgessville are thinking about the twinkle of Christmas lights.
The Brighten Burgessville Campaign are raising funds to purchase lights for the village.
Committee member, Ruth Storey says they purchased lights and held their inaugural parade last year but they'd like to expand. "After the Canada Day Committee we had some money left over and decided to donate it back to the village. We decided to buy Christmas lights. We bought eight lights originally and decided also to do a Santa Claus parade."
The group are raising funds by placing an electronic waste bin at Ducky Dennis Park. The bin will be set up from now until May 23rd in the park and the public are welcomed to drop off old computers, computer monitors, laptops, scanners, printers, fax machines, TVs, telephones, cell phones, answering machines, pagers, recorders, cameras, radios, speakers, turntables, video game consoles and accessories. Appliances will not be accepted.
Storey says they are going to be wrapping up their campaign at the end of the month. "So far we have raised enough money for six more lights in the village. People have donated and for $50 or more their name will be added to a plaque, it will be up in Burgessville so you can donate in memory of somebody or just from a family or businesses."
The committee members are purchasing snowflakes and shooting star lights for the village. Ruth says the shooting star lights have already been purchased as part of the "in memory" donations.
