Woodstock Police warn residents about the results of binge drinking
WOODSTOCK - This New Year's Eve you're encouraged to enjoy in moderation.
Many people will be going out to enjoy a drink or two with friends, but the Woodstock Police are cautioning residents about binge drinking.
Woodstock Police Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen says they still see too many people overdoing it when it comes to alcohol. "We're still seeing - and we had some reports over the weekend - of people who are very intoxicated, putting themselves at risk of injury by falling. We've had people pass out in flowerbeds that we've come upon during patrol and found those people. So it can be dangerous."
VanLeeuwen says there are some steps you can take to help slow yourself down and make sure you aren't overdoing it. "If you are consuming alcohol and having fun make sure that you eat food, make sure that you are having a glass of water between drinks and be careful when you get to the point where you're intoxicated. Some people will start doing shots and shooters because they are too intoxicated and start making poor choices, so just really think ahead before you do that to yourself."
Drinking games can be dangerous as people can consume far more alcohol than they intend to in the spirit of the game.
The Woodstock Police will be out in force on New Year's Eve to try and make sure everyone gets home safely.
