Over 26,000 double vaccinated people over the age of 50 in the Southwestern Public Health region have not booked an appointment for their booster shot yet.
SWPH - The Medical Officer of Health for Southwestern Public Health is urging everyone to get your booster shot.
Dr. Joyce Lock is urging the more than 26,000 residents, aged 50+, with two but not three doses, to book their boosters today.
“We are concerned about the misconception that Omicron is just a mild infection. The reason it is mild is because of vaccination. Your risk of an ICU admission due to COVID-19 is reduced by 90% if you are fully vaccinated. Do not take for granted the role vaccines have in getting us through this wave.”
Public Health Ontario has recently released data indicating that unvaccinated adults 60 years of age or older were approximately 19.0 times more likely to be hospitalized due to COVID-19 compared to adults 60 years of age and older with a third dose.
You can also book your booster shot through Shoppers Drug Mart.
