Police will stationed at four local high schools this week and will be raising awareness about the dangers of driving while under the influence of drugs.
Woodstock Police Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen says they will stopping students coming in and out of the parking lot and talking to the kids about the dangers of driving high. She adds they are hoping they won't have to do any criminal investigations and are hoping the kids get the message.
Statistics show that one in ten high school age students are reported to be driving an hour after smoking marijuana according to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
VanLeeuwen adds if you get pulled over while driving high you will be charged with impaired driving and it faces the same consequences as driving drunk. Tips to avoid getting charged are; plan to get home safely, ask your doctor about side effects when driving and read the prescription information.
