Ontario Provincial Police launch a week long blitz targeting drivers distracted by their cell phones.
As if you needed another reason not to use your cell phone while driving, OPP will be out in full force this week targeting distracted drivers.
Oxford OPP Constable Lisa Narancsik says there are many ways to use your cell phone hands free these days.
"When we see somebody that's caused an accident that may have caused a serious injury it's very frustrating because it effects a lot of people. Not those just in the accident, it could effect families, the officers that are attending the scenes, it has a whole huge range of impact on people."
"We've had an increase in the number of fatalities and we want to educate the public in the use of that because that's something that's increasing over time. The only way to stop people from driving distracted is to raise their awareness as to how serious the problem is and has become over the last few years."
Narancsik says the campaign will run March 8 to 14.
Starting March 18 fines for distracted driving will go up from $155 to $280.
