Oxford County Crown Attorney Brian Crockett is owning up today. Crockett made an appearance today at the Oxford County Court House to resolve the charges he faced. He pleaded guilty to both impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample. "I'm so grateful no one was injured", Crockett told the court. The 64-year-old had taken his 3 dogs out for a walk on a trail off of Oxford Road 17, on a Saturday afternoon back in August. His pick-up got stuck in a ditch while reversing out of the walking trail entrance. Police say Crockett was revving the truck to get out of the ditch, and that started a grass fire beneath the vehicle, which prompted residents in the area to call 911. Police say Crockett smelled of alcohol, he was staggering and speaking unclearly. Police say he indicated that his dog named Rupert was driving when asked and that he continually interrupted them and told them off on multiple occasions. He told the court that he acted in a completely unacceptable way. He said this "incident simply crystallized what was an issue" for him. "Let's be frank, it's an addiction and I have to deal with it." Crockett told the court today. He has already spent 35-days in rehabilitation and is in a 36-week program. Crockett says his recovery goes beyond the 36-weeks and that "it has to be permanent." He calls the 35 days he spent in rehab a "revelation." His sentence is a $2500-fine and a one-year driving ban. Justice Kathryn Hawke says "This is much more than a plea of convenience. This is pure evidence of actual and deep remorse."
