With a kangaroo mascot and a flying money machine, Your Neighbourhood Credit Union made a splash with the launch of their new location today. They've actually been open for two months at Dundas and Brock St., but held their official ribbon cutting and grand opening today. Woodstock's BIA Manager Kelly Morrison says they're a welcomed addition to the downtown. "Yes, it's nice to have this building back to a bank again. When it was TD, and they moved out of the downtown, it was kind of a void for us, so this is very exciting to have a financial institution back on this fantastic corner." Your Neighbourhood Credit Union Chairman John Haines says they love the new location. "There's lots of parking at this branch, it's a wonderful location, it's just a great opportunity to be here and reinvigorate the downtown core." YNC started in Woodstock by absorbing the former Standard Tube Employees Credit Union. They operate in 15 branches across southern Ontario, including Brantford, Kitchener and Stratford. Haines says they're now proud to call Woodstock home as well. "Because of the nature of this community, how it's growing and the dynamics that it has here, we're looking to make a more public involvement in the town." And that involvement includes bringing more bodies into the downtown, which is key to making the downtown click, according to Kelly Morrison. "Banks bring people downtown. They come down on their lunch to do their banking, maybe grab a bite to eat while they are here, or maybe pop in and run an errand, so it's very important to the vitality and creates that vibrancy downtown."
