CP Rail and the Teamsters union have agreed to final and binding arbitration. This means workers will be back on the job at noon today.
OTTAWA - Over 3,000 conductors, engineers and train and yard workers will be back on the job at noon today.
CP Rail and the Teamsters union have agreed to final and binding arbitration, putting a end to the work stoppage.
The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference says this was not the union's preferred course of action, but their representatives were able negotiate terms and conditions that were in the best interest of its members.
Keith Creel, the President and CEO of Canadian Pacific Railway, says he's happy the two sides have reached an agreement so they can resume essential services for the North American supply chain.
Federal Labour Minister Seamus O'Regan was also very happy to hear the news. He had been under pressure to enact back-to-work legislation.
.@CanadianPacific & @TeamstersRail have agreed to resolve their outstanding issues through binding arbitration. Rail operations will resume on March 22. I congratulate the parties for staying at the table and coming to a resolution with the help of federal mediators. Thank you.
