County Council is looking at amending the rules around water and sewage service extension to make them clearer.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council will be submitting an application to amend the Official Plan in order to modify some rules when it comes to extending water and sewage services.
As of right now you can only extend these services under certain situations, but those situations can be a little hard to understand.
Director of Strategic Planning Gord Hough says the proposed amendment will make everything easier to understand.
"The reason for the amendment to the plan was to be able to look at those policies and try to bring back some clarity to them and make it a bit clearer overall as to where those circumstances would exist when you are allowed to connect to existing services or extend services."
Hough adds the current rules have caused problems in the past.
"In recent years we have had a couple of issues even between municipalities where, because of that lack of clarity and lack of understanding of the process, perhaps that it has become a bit of a problem."
City staff will be consulting with interested municipalities. Hough says this is just the starting point, and he hopes to bring results back to council at the end of the summer.
