Oxford County is set to start it's 2013 budget this week, which is already starting at a lean 1.2% increase. The initial budget accounts for $181.8 million in spending next year, up $1.8-million. Upward pressures on the budget this year, includes maintenance on County roads, rising costs for social services, and increased pension premiums. Among the cost savings will be a reduction in staffing, starting a self insurance program, and the County is set to retire its 10-year commitment to the Woodstock Hospital. Councillors will get their first crack at the budget Wednesday afternoon. Budget meetings are open to the public and are over the next three Wednesdays on November 28th, December 5th and December 12th at 1:00 p.m. in the County Council Chambers at 21 Reeve Street in Woodstock. You can also track the budget process and get an overview here.
