The Woodstock BIA's budget for 2019 was approved, this year's total levy represents less than a $2,000 increase from the BIA's 2018 budget.
WOODSTOCK - The 2019 budget for the Woodstock BIA was recently approved by Woodstock City council.
This year's amount comes in at $191,870.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says the Woodstock BIA came forward recommending a 1% increase to this year's budget.
"Our downtown merchants have their association, the Business Improvement Area, and this is what helps do the marketing and attract the businesses downtown, it also helps support Streetfest and many of the special events that take place in our community that people have come to enjoy. And that committee has come forward with a recommendation for 1% increase on the levy that is charged to the BIA. Tonight, council approved that increase and asked them to bring back their balance budget to council and we'll add those amounts to the tax roll. So, again, that's a lower amount than the current cost of living increase and yet again they are continuing to expand the marketing that they do."
Birtch says the funds will be put towards staff resources and other areas.
"This is the money that is used for their staff resources, as well as a summer student position that helps them arrange everything for the street festival. And they also take care of the Santa Claus parade and for anyone who brings their children or grandchildren down to the Museum Square for any of these special activities that take place."
This year's total levy represents less than a $2,000 increase from the BIA's 2018 budget. And it is also made up of taxes from the BIA property owners only.
