Three outgoing County Council members made their final remarks during Wednesday night's meeting.
OXFORD COUNTY - Gifts were presented and thank-yous exchanged as three members departed from Oxford County Council.
Wednesday night's County Council meeting was the last for three of its outgoing members. Mayor of Woodstock Pat Sobeski, Mayor of Tillsonburg Dave Beres and Mayor of Norwich Donald Doan all said their final remarks at the Oxford Council Administration Building's Council Chambers.
For Mayors Sobeski and Doan, it marks the end of a 8-year term, but for Mayor Beres, only one year has passed for him in County Council. Regardless of his short time in council, he praised the organization of county council, and the respect former Mayor John Lessif had earned for the Town of Tillsonburg until Beres took over in May of this year. "It's been quite simple for me because Mayor John Lessif who left this position in May of this year had paved the road for respect from county council and the residents and the staff."
Mayor Doan was sceptic of his first experiences with Council, but saluted the "warm, understanding and supportive" staff and councillors of Oxford County. He was very proud of the things he and the council were able to accomplish in Norwich township and said he was "very pleased to be a part of it."
Mayor Sobeski was unable to be reached for comment as he left to attend another event in Woodstock, but in the Council Chambers, he reiterated the praises of both Mayor Doan and Mayor Beres, and thanked his fellow members of council for their combined successes over his eight years in council.
The new County Council members will be sworn in at the inaugural meeting to be held December 9th.
