The stop sign that was placed over a month ago in the city's north end was brought up again at the latest council meeting
WOODSTOCK - A solution has been made at an intersection in the city's north end.
City Council briefly discussed the issue at the latest council meeting where a three way stop has been placed at the intersection of Lakewood Drive and Meadow Wood Lane. Councillor Shawn Shapton has received feedback from residents in the area and explains why public safety is always the most important factor. "Since the three way stop have gone up I have received several emails or text messages just saying how wonderful it is. Community safety needs to become a bigger part of Woodstock and identifying a problem, and finding a quick solution before someone gets hurt and that is what happened in this case. A staff report laid out a lot of good ideas and actually one of them was to put an all way stop in." The sometime heated topic had several councillors agreeing with the 3 way stop with others suggesting to build a round a bout.
A sight line issue combined with cars speeding through the residential area raised concern from citizens that a change needed to be made. With the implementation of a three stop Councillor Shapton spoke with Heart FM on if this is the end of the issue regarding the intersection. "I believe so, the signs are up they went up probably a month ago. Anything similar to this there will be staff report created first before the vote so that we are protecting ourselves in the long run."
Shawn Shapton who was for this project since the beginning explains why this needed to happen. "My opinion on this hasn't changed and it won't change, community safety will always become paramount long before any ramifications to putting in another safety measure." It was Councillor Deb Tait who felt not everything was discussed as it should have before the vote, and now a report will be conducted for any new projects that require traffic calming measures.
