Continuing The Conversation On Mental Health

Mental health was the topic of discussion during a regional roundtable today.

WOODSTOCK - Some of the community's leaders sat down to discuss mental health during a regional roundtable in Woodstock.

Talks were held today to focus on mental health among farmers and people in rural Ontario.

Hardeman says communication is the best solution to addressing mental health.

"I think the biggest positive that came out of the meeting is to have all of the providers hearing each other talk about what they were doing, and how they were doing it and how they though they were doing. And also coming forward with what they thought are some things that need addressing."

Hardemen met with many of the community's mental health providers, helping launch a PSA video encouraging farmers to talk about the stigma surrounding mental health. Some the services included Canadian Mental Health Oxford and the Nurse Practioner's Clinc in Ingersoll.

Overall, he says it was a successful meeting.

"(I'm) very pleased that all the people came out and everybody had very good comments, and everybody I talked to going out felt somewhat good about having being here this morning to hear other people tell their stories."

This was the second roundtable Hardeman held this month. The first one was held in Guelph on January 7th. 

This was in part of a $3.8 billion dollar investment from the provincial government to develop an effective mental health strategy over the next decade. It is the biggest commitment to mental health in the province's history.
