Construction on Thamesford's New Fire Station Is Underway

The new fire station for Thamesford will offer more space for all the necessities.

THAMESFORD - Concrete is being poured and the construction is ongoing at the brand new Thamesford Fire Station.

When the building is finished in December it will replace the old fire hall that was built in the 1960's. Fire Chief for the Township of Zorra John McFarlan tells Heart the new station will be a non combustible sprinkler building. "It's built post disaster construction, so it has its own generator, so it's self sufficient in the event of a major emergency or an incident in the area and it is also going to operate as the Township's emergency control centre." 

McFarlan says it was time to move from the old hall. "The old hall wasn't able to fit some of the new trucks and equipment the firefighters are using and the new station will have enough room to house up to 6 units."

The fire hall will cost about $1.93 million.
